Former Donnie Nelson assistant Michael Finley will also work with Harrison to carry out a basketball operation.

Dallas — Just over a week after the two key members of the Dallas Mavericks left, the organization hired their successors.

Former Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd, who coached Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks, will become head coach, and Nike executive Nico Harrison will join the team as president of the basketball business, owner Mark.・ Cuban confirmed. Harrison will work with Michael Finley to lead the basketball operations department. Finley was a longtime assistant under Donnie Nelson, the former president of the basketball business.

Nelson and former head coach Rick Carlisle left the Mavericks last week and made different moves every day.

Kid spent the season in Nets and almost four years in Bucks. He led Nets to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, where he lost to LeBron James and the Miami Heat. Milwaukee was young and inconsistent during his tenure. They played off in his first and third years, after which he was fired in the middle of his fourth season with the team.

For the past two years, he has been an assistant to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Kid also had two stints playing with the Mavericks. He was drafted second overall by Dallas in 1994 and played the first two seasons before being traded in 1996. Then, 12 years later, it was traded back to Dallas. He spent four seasons with the Mavericks in his second stint, helping the team to the 2011 Championship.

Harrison played college basketball at Montana State University, led his team to his fourth-year NCAA tournament, and played professionally in Europe for seven years.

He joined Nike as a marketer and moved up the ranks to become a high-level executive. His relationship with some prominent players in the league has led multiple teams to try to pull him away from Nike. Mavericks’ success in doing so is seen as a boon to its owner, Mark Cuban and the organization.
