Officials say man drowns in Joe Pool Lake

Grand Prairie, Texas — Saturday’s Grand Prairie Fire Department said a public safety diving team had recovered the body of a 55-year-old man who drowned on Lake Joe Pool on Wednesday. The Dallas County Medical Inspector’s Office will later publish the man’s name.

According to the fire department, the diving team recovered the body around 8:15 am on Saturday after the drowning was reported at 1:45 pm on Wednesday. Witnesses told the first responders that they did not resurface when they saw the man swimming from the boat. The man wore a life jacket on the boat, but he took it off to go swimming, officials said.

“The city of Grand Prairie condolences to the victims’ families,” the fire department said in a statement. “As the lake season continues, GPFD strongly recommends that the general public wear life jackets or suitable personal floating devices while at the water’s edge.”
