A great Swedish player missed the spot qualifying for her country’s 4×100 freestyle relay team when she was beaten by an Indian swimmer under half the age.

Therese Alshammar’s attempt to become the first swimmer to compete in the seven Olympics ended on Saturday, less than a month after the Tokyo Olympics.

A great Swedish player missed out on his country’s 4×100 freestyle relay team when he was beaten by an Indian swimmer under half the age of two women in a heat at a Seven Hills tournament.

43-year-old Al Shamer touched in 57.99 seconds. This was about 2 seconds slower than I needed for 100 free.

Under the scorching Roman sun in a half-empty outdoor arena, Northwestern University athlete Kenisha Gupta won the heat at 57.35.

“It was harder than I expected,” Alshammer told The Associated Press. “If you want to have a good race, you have to practice a lot, and this year was a different year from (pandemic).”

The two mothers, Al-Shammer, decided to make a comeback earlier this year after retiring in 2016.

“I trained more because I was different years, but the race was a lot harder,” she said. “There weren’t many tournaments to find, and I wasn’t good at 100 in the last part of my career, so 100 hurts more than I can remember. Even today, it’s okay to play. did.

Al-Shammer is the only female swimmer to participate in the six Olympic Games (1996-2016). Two men, Derya Büyükuncu from Turkey and Lars Frölander from Sweden, also achieved this feat (both from 1992 to 2012).

Al-Shammer won two silver medals (50 and 100 free) and a bronze medal (4×100 free relay) at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She has also won eight medals at world championships throughout her career.

Arshammer concludes his career by competing for free on Sunday for 50. She is not trying to qualify for the event.
